Dominican Attitude Excursions · Bayahibe

Mangroves, reef and the natural pool

Dominican Attitude Excursions packs the most stops of any group tour here into one speedboat day from Bayahibe: a cliff with a Taíno story, the mangroves, a snorkel at Catuano, lunch on a Saona beach and the natural pool last. Pick it if you want to see more of the national park than one beach.

Beaches, Mangroves & Natural Pool by Speedboat

About this experience

The meeting point is the Dominican Attitude office at Calle Roma 7 in Bayahibe village, two steps from the public bus station, and hotel pickup runs from as far as Punta Cana, Uvero Alto, La Romana and Juan Dolio. That is why the listed length swings from 7.5 to 11 hours: it is short from Bayahibe and long from the resorts.

Once on the speedboat, you head into Cotubanamá National Park. The guide stops below the Peñón cliff to tell its Taíno history, then the boat noses into the mangroves, where trees grow straight out of the seawater. Next is a snorkel at the old piers of Catuano, with masks provided. Lunch is a Dominican buffet on a Saona beach with rum, beer and soft drinks, and the day ends at the natural pool with an aperitif in the water.

Two honest notes. With this many stops, the beach time is a lunch stop rather than an afternoon, so sun worshippers do better on the group of 20. And the snorkel is a short swim, not a reef dive: one guest found the coral there mostly dead. The boat is a speedboat both ways, and one reviewer found it a bit small for the number of people.

  • A ride through the mangroves
  • Snorkelling at the Catuano piers, gear included

Tips before you book

  • Stay in Bayahibe if you can. The day is much shorter when you walk to the office.
  • Keep your hands off the starfish at the pool. The listing forbids it.
  • Bring a hat and sunscreen: speedboats have little shade.
  • Ask the guide which stop comes when, since the order can change with the sea.

Why is the tour 7.5 to 11 hours long?

It depends on where you join. From the Bayahibe office the day is short; with pickup from Punta Cana or Juan Dolio, hours of road are added each way.

Can children go?

From age 3. Babies under 1 and children under 3 are not allowed, and the upper limit is 70. Pregnant travellers and people with back problems should not book.

Is the snorkelling good?

It is a short stop at the Catuano piers with fish to see, but one guest found the coral mostly dead. Keen snorkellers should read our snorkelling guide and look at Catalina.
